Phishing
Phishing: a standard method of scam and digital fraud. It is designed to steal money or personal identities via email or phone calls that reproduce familiar or captivating messages and/or situations. In general, the victim immediately transfers their data (card numbers, passwords to access restricted areas, etc.) by clicking on a link or filling in fake contact forms explicitly created for the scam, or verbally.

Smishing (SMS + phishing)
A form of phishing that attacks through mobile devices, via text messages.

SCA (Strong Customer Authentication)
A required method for recognizing and authenticating the person holding the card. It works with the combination of three personal factors:

  • - Secret information (such as PIN or password),
  • - Physical objects (such as your phone)
  • - Physical characteristics (such as a fingerprint or face).

It has been in force in Italy since 2019 and refers to the European regulation PSD2 (Payment Services Directive 2).

PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards)
Standard protocol that includes very high-security requirements mandatory for all companies that process credit card data. It guarantees full protection for people and banks in the digital age. It was founded by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and JCB.

PIN (Personal Identification Number)
Short personal and secret numeric code assigned to the card. It allows you to withdraw from ATMs and replaces the signature at the time of payment.

PAN (Primary Account Number)
Card identification number. It generally has 16 digits shown on the front of the card.

CVV o CVC (Card Validation Value o Card Verification Code)
A 3-digit numeric code located on the back of the cards.
